In the first such visit to the country by an Indian Prime Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Israel from July 4 - 6, 2017 at the invitation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.

Important Announcements and Aspects

  • Extensive talks to scale up cooperation. Under “Make in India” scheme advance sales and production of missiles, drones and radar systems.
  • Key collaboration is Barak-8 air defence system, built jointly by the two countries
  • India traditionally cautious in dealing with Israel for fear of upsetting Arab states and Iran- it relies for its vast imports of oil, as also own large Muslim population.
  • PM Modi to not travel to Ramallah, the seat of the Palestinian Authority- customary stop to maintain a balance in political ties
