The country’s National Academy of Art, the Lalit Kala Akademi hosted the first-ever International Print Biennale in the country with a record number of 17 countries taking part in it. An exhibition Eminent Printmakers of India showcasing master Indian printmakers was also held on sidelines of it.

  • The event comprised displaying of total 200 original prints created by Indian and international artists of impeccable competence.

Countries That Participated in the Exhibition

  • The international participants were from countries like

  1. USA
  2. UK
  3. Sri Lanka
  4. Italy
  5. Mexico
  6. China
  7. Israel
  8. Sweden
  9. Lithuania
  10. Poland
  11. Argentina
  12. Greece
  13. Nepal
  14. Bangladesh,
  15. Mauritius
  • A total number of 988 entries at the national level were received of which 127 have been chosen for display.
  • The number of entries at the international level was 137 of which 50 artists have been selected.
  • A total of 73 artworks of international artists were on display.
  • The ‘Eminent Printmakers of India’ show consisted of 98 artists to be displayed from 26th March till April 22nd, 2018.
  • The Eminent Printmakers of India show artists were invited to send two prints of their choice as the exhibits. In the open category, artists were asked to send upto three prints which were submitted for selection before a 2-tier International Jury.

Lalit Kala Akademi

  • It is also called as National Academy of Art.

  • It is India’s national academy of fine arts.

  • It is autonomous organisation established in 1954 to promote and propagate understanding of Indian art, in and outside the country.

  • It provides scholarships and fellow program and sponsors and organises exhibitions in India and overseas.

  • It publishes bilingual journal. It is funded by Ministry of Culture. Its headquartered are at Ravindra Bhawan, New Delhi.
