About Punjabi University: Punjabi University provides higher education. It is located in Patiala of Punjab in India. It was established on the 30th April 1962. Its name is given after the language of Punjab; by this it becomes second university in the world which has given name after a language.

  • First university which has also given name after language is Hebrew University of Israel.
  • It has 65 teaching and research departments which includes disciplines in Humanities, Science, Fine Arts, Computer Science and Business Management.

About winning of Maulana Abul Kalam trophy:

  • Punjabi University has been selected for the sports award Maulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy for year 2014.
  • This award will be given to the Punjabi University on 29th August 2015 on the occasion of National Sports Day.
  • It has won this trophy for 8th time. Earlier, it had also won this trophy in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

About Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy

  • This award is given annually to the university or institutions for their versatile performance in Inter - University Tournaments.
  • It was established in 1956 - 1957 by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in the memory of scholar and a senior political leader Maulana Azad.
  • In this award one can achieve Replica of the Trophy and ten lakh rupees.
