The Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) air defence system. This air defense missile system was tested from Balasore flight test range. The missile being developed for the Indian Army by the DRDO has a strike range of 25-kms. This missile technology is the all-weather, all-terrain missile being equipped with an electronic counter-measures against jamming by enemy aircraft can be mounted on a truck and stored in a canister. The 1st trial of QSRAM was conducted on 4 June 2017 and on 26 February 2019.

Test Fire Overview

  • To accomplish the objective two live targets were selected upon which the corresponding two missiles were tested.

  • The various Electro Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS), Radar Systems and Telemetry Systems were used to capture the entire test mission.

  • The RADAR (radio detection and ranging) was mounted on a vehicle & missiles on launcher.

  • The indigenously-developed Phased array radar, Inertial Navigation System, Data Link & RF seeker were used.

  • Different altitude and conditions were used for testing two different missiles.

  • The test flights successfully demonstrated their high manoeuvring capabilities, aerodynamics, propulsion and structural performance.

Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAM)

  • This missile was developed for Indian Army with search and track on move capability with very short reaction time.

  • Sophistication to all weather and terrain further adds to its capabilities.

  • This missile uses solid-fuel propellant with a range of 25 - 30 km.

  • It can be mounted on a truck and stored in a canister.

  • It is equipped with electronic counter measures against jamming by aircraft radars.

  • It can engage targets at different ranges and altitudes with many states of art technologies.
