QS World Universities Released Ranking of 2018 (Download PDF)

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University has released Rankings 2018 in which three universities of India have secured its spot in top 200 universities and they are Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Bombay, IIT-Delhi and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

  • The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has topped the list of world’s best university for the sixth consecutive year whereas Stanford University has secured second place and Harvard University have secured third place in the list.

Key Facts

  • The India’s three universities have been ranked in top 200 list of global universities QS Rankings and they are:
  1. Institute of Technology (IIT) -Bombay secured 179th spot (last year it was 219)
  2. IIT-Delhi is ranked at 172nd position (last year it was 185)
  3. Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru at 190 spot (last year it was 152)
  • IISc has secured 6th position out of 959 universities for ‘Citations per Faculty’ in the 2018 rankings which is based on number of research papers from a university is cited in the research work of others and is then calibrated against its faculty strength.
  • The Delhi University (DU) also has ranked in top 500 groups.
  • Other Indian Universities get ranked in QS World University Rankings:

    • Jadavpur University (ranked in the 601 - 650 band)
    • University of Hyderabad (601 - 650)
    • Anna University (651 - 700)
    • Manipal University (701 - 750)
    • Aligarh Muslim University (800 - 1000)
    • Birla Institute of Technology and Science (800 - 1000)
  • World’s 26, 000 universities are surveyed this year for ranking.
  • This year Indies 20 institutions have secured place in ranking table.
  • IISc is the country’s best university as recently released NIRF Rankings for Indian educational institutes.
  • IIT Madras is has secured first position as best engineering institutes.
