Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) & Requirements of Premises, Plant & Equipment for pharmaceutical products prescribe requirements for disposal of waste. Disposal of sewage & effluents from manufactory shall be in conformity with requirements of Environment Pollution Control Board.

  • All bio-medical waste shall be destroyed in 1996

  • Additional precautions taken for storage & disposal of rejected drugs.

  • Provision shall made for proper & safe storage of waste materials awaiting disposal.

  • One condition of drug manufacturing licence is that License shall comply with GMP requirements.

  • State Licensing Authorities are empowered to take action in case of any violation of above requirements.

Medicines That Should Considered as Medical Wastes Are:

  • All expired medicines

  • All unsealed syrups & eye drops

  • All unsealed tubes of creams, ointments

  • All bulk or loose tablets & capsules

Special Disposal is Needed For:

  • Controlled substance

  • Anti-infective drugs

  • Antineoplastics

  • Cytotoxic-anti-cancer drugs

  • Antiseptics & disinfectants
