Key Points
SAIL has supplied TMT rebars & structural struts along w⟋HR Plates & Sheets, Plate Mill Plates for this project from in its state-of-the-art new mills at Durgapur, IISCO, Rourkela & Bokaro plants.
This project marks 1st use of artificial intelligence (AI) by Indian Railways to control air circulation, supervision & maintenance, & signages, set to be placed in tunnel.
There are plans to expand this technology to Hyderabad, Mumbai, & Ahmedabad metro rails.
National Project
World՚s tallest girder rail bridge & India՚s longest tunnel are both set to be built on new Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal broad gauge railway project in Manipur.
Railway line will be 111-km long & is being constructed by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) .
Line will have 9 stations- Dolakhal, Kaimai Road, Kambiron, Thingou, Khongsang, Noney Tupul, Haochang Road, & Manipur state capital Imphal. This will be Imphal՚s 1st railway connection.
Bridge No. 164, to be built over Iring River by 2019, will be 141 metres in height, almost twice as tall as Qutab Minar.
Currently, tallest girder Rail Bridge is Mala-Rijeka viaduct in Montenegro, Europe, which has height of 139 metres. It will be designed & equipped to carry up to 25-ton freight trains.
11.55 km tunnel, T-12, constructed on railway link is set to be longer than any other in country, w⟋service tunnel running alongside & connected to main one nodally.
1st section of project, 84-km railway line b⟋w Jiribam & Tupul, is almost complete.
2nd section, 27-km connection b⟋w Tupul & Imphal, is set to be completed by 2019.
Noney, town in Manipur that will have railway station once project is complete, is being viewed by state as potential tourist hub.
Plans are afoot to open up houses in town to tourists in order to promote interactions w⟋local culture.
