Embodying the philosophy of co-operative federalism, NITI Aayog selected 3 states of Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka through 3-stage challenge-process

Three states were finally chosen based on objective assessment evaluating the potential for impact and likelihood of success.
Consortium of technical consultants working with NITI Aayog and the states now conceptualize the initiatives and provide support in the implementation process.
SATH Health Reforms
The reforms from SATH program follow a systems approach, rather than a systematic approach
Focus on improving infrastructure and strengthening human resources to achieve our health objectives.
NITI will be an enabler creating leaders from within the state system.
SATH Workshop
Developed partnerships and brought convergence among different stakeholders towards goal of transforming health outcomes.
Brought together 100 experts from development organizations such as World Bank, World Health Organization, UNDP, UNICEF and World Health Partners, officials, stakeholders and private partners from Assam՚s public health system, and healthcare representatives from several districts of Assam.
Workshop identified priorities like
Developing human resources
Improving governance and performance management of the healthcare system
Reducing maternal and child mortality especially in remote areas- tea plantations
Improving nutritional status to tackle preventable causes of morbidity and mortality
Using health care technology for end-to-end strengthening of the health system.
Action plans from the workshop now will be detailed and implemented in the coming months under SATH initiative.
What is SATH Program?
Initiate transformation in education and health sectors using philosophy of co-operative federalism.
Addresses need for many states for technical support from NITI Aayog.
Program implemented by NITI along with McKinsey & Company and IPE Global consortium.
Initially SATH Program selected 3 states- Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka for interventions in health systems.
NITI Aayog is now work in close collaboration with state machinery in these three states to:
Design a robust roadmap of intervention
Develop program governance structure
Set up monitoring and tracking mechanisms
Handhold state institutions through the execution stage
Provide support on a range of institutional measures to achieve the end objectives.
