SAKSHAM is a MHRD scholarship Scheme being implemented by AICTE. It is aimed at providing encouragement and support to 1000 specially abled children to pursue Technical Education.

  • SAKSHAM is an attempt to give every young student, who is otherwise specially abled, the opportunity to study further and prepare for a successful future.
  • The applicants for the scholarship is low, though the number of students applying for the scholarship is increasing gradually.

Scholarship Incentives

The scholarship would have

  • The amount of scholarship is tuition fee of Rs. 30000/- or the actual fees, whichever is less

  • Rs. 2000/- per month for 10 months as incidentals

In case of tuition fee waiver/reimbursement, students would be eligible to get an amount of Rs. 30, 000/- for the purchase of books/equipment/software/laptop/desktop/vehicle/fee paid towards competitive exam applications forms/exam/specific equipment/software’s for visually impaired/speech and hearing disabled.

Scholarship Eligibility?

  • This scholarship is for those differently abled students whose family income is less than Rs. Six lakhs per annum.
  • Out of the total number of scholarship in each scheme, 50 % scholarships are available at each degree/diploma level and also transferable in the event of non-availability of the eligible applicant in any of the of degree/diploma level programme.

How Will the Candidates Be Selected?

  • The candidates to be selected on merit at the qualifying examination to pursue technical education from amongst such candidates.

  • The candidates should have been admitted to first year of the Degree or Diploma programme in any of the AICTE approved institute during the academic year through centralized admission process of the State/Central Government.

  • Reservation is 15 % for SC, 7.5%, ST and 27 % for OBC candidates/applicants

BackgroundThe Saksham Scholarship Scheme was launched on 11 November 2014.

  • Another schemes is being run by the government called “PRAGATI”, for economically backward girl students. The girl should be the only child of parents to get the scholarship.
