To create awareness among the school students across the country, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) launched Samagra Shiksha-Jal Suraksha drive on 9th August 2019. A similar scheme known as Jal Sanchay was launched by the Prime Minster of India as part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA).

The Ministry of HRD and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan were appreciated by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti towards water conservation.

Implementation Overview and Objectives

  • The Department of School Education & Literacy under MHRD is the responsible authority of Samagra Shiksha-Jal Suraksha Drive.

  • Educating students about the water conservation along with sensitizing the impact of water scarcity is the key objective of the mission.

  • The students will be empowered to protect natural resources of water.

  • Every student should learn to save at least 1 litre of water every day.

  • Ensuring judicious use and minimum wastage of water at home and school level.

  • Other responsibilities of school students include saving 365 litres of water in one year and 3650 litres of water in 10 years.
