Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched many schemes for promoting e-learning. Objective is to take best teaching learning resources to all, including most disadvantaged. Main e-learning initiatives by MHRD are discussed below.

SWAYAM:

  • SWAYAM belongs to Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds.
  • This programme is initiated to achieve 3 cardinal principles of Education Policy named access, equity & quality.
  • Programme’s online courses using Information & Communication Technology (ICT) & covering school (9th to 12th) to Post Graduate Level.

Courses hosted in 4 quadrants:

  • Video lecture

  • Specially prepared reading material which can be downloaded/printed

  • Self-assessment tests thru tests & quizzes

  • Online discussion forum for clearing doubts.

SWAYAM Prabha

  • SWAYAM Prabha is initiative to provide 32 High Quality Educational Channels thru DTH (Direct to Home) across length & breadth of country on 24X7 basis.

  • Channel uses GSAT-15 satellite.

  • It has curriculum based course content covering diverse disciplines.

  • The contents are provided by NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT and NIOS.

E-pathshala

  • E-pathshala is portal jointly initiated by MHRD, GoI & NCERT.

  • Portal was launched in November 2015.

  • E-pathshala is listed available on UMANG App of GoI.

  • E-books of resources developed by National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT), State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) / State Institutes of Education (SIEs), State boards.

  • SIEs in multiple languages & uploaded on e-pathshala website & disseminated thru mobile app (android, iOS and Windows).

National Digital Library (NDL)

  • NDL’s objective is to integrate several national & international digital libraries in one single web-portal.

  • Library was launched in May 2016.

  • There are more than 153 Lakhs digital books available thru NDL.

National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER)

NROER was launched in August 2013, 4 years ago.

Objectives of Resources

  • To make digital resources available for teachers & students as free & open source material.

  • To enable participation of community in development & sharing of digital resources.

  • To facilitate adoption & creation of digital resources in different Indian languages.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)

MHRD was created on Sep. 1985.

MHRD works thru 2 departments:

  • Department of School Education & Literacy

  • Department of Higher Education

Objectives of Ministry

  • Formulating National Policy on Education & to ensure that it is implemented in letter and spirit

  • Paying special attention to disadvantaged groups like the poor, females & minorities

  • Provide financial help in form of scholarships, loan subsidy, etc. to deserving students from deprived sections of society.
