The Government had also approved a special package for textile sector with an outlay of Rs. 6000 crore to boost employment generation and exports, particularly in Garmenting and Made-ups. Government is implementing various policy initiatives and schemes for the development of textile workers, these include:

Social Welfare Schemes

Following are important social welfare schemes for weavers and workers:

  • Matatma Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana for Handloom weavers

  • Group Insurance Scheme for Powerloom workers

  • Aam Admi Bima Yojana for handicrafts artisans

  • Scholarship for children of jute workers

Textile Workers Rehabilitation Fund Scheme

  • Textile Workers Rehabilitation Fund Scheme (TWRFS) provides relief to jobless workers from permanent closure of Non-SSI Textile Mills in private sector.
  • Now merged with Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana (RGSKY) providing an unemployment allowance for employees under ESI Scheme unemployed involuntarily due to closure of factory

Pradhan Mantri Paridhan Rojgar Protsahan Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Paridhan Rojgar Protsahan Yojana (PMPRPY) of Ministry of Textiles bears additional 3.67 % share of the employer’s contribution of the Employers Provident Fund Scheme in addition to the 8.33 % already covered under Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana (PMRPY) for first three years of employment.
