Sir David Cox Honoured with First International Prize in Statistics

Famous British statistician Sir David Cox became the first recipient of the International Prize in Statistics recognizing his work in Survival Analysis Model (or Cox Model) . This model found applications in many fields such as science and engineering (testing, disease risk assessment, treatment evaluation, and product liability) , school dropout, re-incarceration and AIDS surveillance systems.

  • Born on 15th July 1924 in Birmingham, England.
  • Famous statistician known for developing the proportional hazards model called Cox Model (1992) .
  • Studied mathematics at St John՚s College, Cambridge
  • Obtained his PhD in 1949 from the University of Leeds.
  • Associated with the US National Academy of Sciences and fellow of the Royal Society and a voluntary fellow of the British Academy.
  • Sir David Cox has served as a President of:
    • Bernoulli Society
    • Royal Statistical Society
    • International Statistical Institute.

Cox Model

  • Broadly used in analysis of survival data, human survival, products surviving testing etc.
