Six Indian Universities Among the Top 500 Universities (Download PDF)

In a recent announcement regarding the World University Rankings 2020, Six Indian Universities have made it among the top 500. Among Indian institutes, IIT Ropar was ranked first alongside IISc Bangalore, beating IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi. However no Indian institute secured a rank among the top 300 institutes of the world.

Top Indian Institutes on the List

  • Among the top Indian Institutes IIT Ropar and IISc Bangalore got the first rank.

  • The second best Indian Institute in the world is IIT Indore.

  • In the third spot, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur are there and stands in the top 401 - 500 universities bracket.

  • Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Panjab University, Savitribai Phule Pune University and Thapar University are among the 601 - 800 universities of the world.

  • The KIIT University and Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan has also made it to the World University Rankings 2020.

  • The IIT Ropar was established in 2008 and was ranked higher than IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.

  • The IISC Bangalore has been at the top spot among the Indian institutes since 2014 World University Rankings.

  • Last year the third sport was shared by Mysore’s Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara (JSS) Academy of Higher Education and Research along with IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee. This time these institutes are absent from the rankings.

Top Universities in the World

  • For the fourth time, the University of Oxford is the number one university in the world in the World University Rankings 2020.

  • At the second spot lies the California Institute of Technology.

  • The University of Cambridge acquired the third spot.

  • Among the other top 10 Universities in the World are the universities of Stanford, Yale, Harvard and Imperial College London.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020

  • It includes almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries and standing as the largest and most diverse university rankings till date.

  • There are 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators for measuring institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

  • The professional services firm Price water house Coopers are responsible for auditing the rankings which is being trusted worldwide by students, teachers, governments and industry experts.
