Unprecedented Investment into Road connectivity in our north-East - 3, 840 kms of national highways sanctioned with an investment of Rs. 32, 600 crore, In the last 3 years, 1, 266 kms of national highways constructed at a cost of Rs. 13, 500 crore.

  • Investment of Rs. 60, 000 crore proposed for road development under SARDP-NE

  • Investment of Rs. 30, 000 crore proposed for development of national highways under Bharatmala in the Northeast

The Highway to Development of the North-East

Road projects in north-east under NHIDCL and NERSDS

  • National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) was set up in July 2014

  • It maintains and upgrades NH and strategic roads in parts of the country which share international boundaries

  • NHIDCL is currently working on:

  • More than 100 road connectivity projects

  • At a cost of more than Rs. 80, 000 crore

  • Covering more than 7000 km

  • ‘North-East Road Sector Development Scheme’ launched in 2015 for rehabilitation/up-gradation of important but neglected inter-state roads

North Eastern Council - Ensuring Development Reaches Our North-East

Achievements of the NEC for India’s North-East

  • North Eastern Council has spent over Rs. 2, 309 crores in the last 3 years on development in the region

  • Budget Allocation increased from Rs. 579 crores to Rs. 969 crores in 3 years

  • Number of projects increased from 56 in 2014 - 15 to 138 in 2016 - 17

  • For the first time:

  • A roster ensures 8 Union Ministers visit North-East every fortnight

  • Ensures major projects in the region are constantly reviewed

  • “Brahmaputra Studies Centre” being set up to -’research the river’s ecosystem

Powering the Aspirations of the North-east, Powering Development

  • ‘Comprehensive Scheme for Power Transmission and Distribution Systems for NE States’ approved in 2014 at Rs. 9, 865 crore

  • 16 Hydro Power projects aggregating to 5576 MW in progress

  • Installation of 694 MW of power generating capacity

  • 2, 540 km of transmission and distribution lines laid

  • Gross financial savings of households which was stagnant around 10 % of GNDI for years, increased by 1 percentage point to reach 11.8%

  • The gross financial savings in terms of Deposits, Shares & Debentures, Insurance funds and Pension & Provident funds increased from 9 % to 13.3 % of GNDI

  • Assets under management by mutual funds touched an all-time high of more than Rs. 20.4 trillion by end of September 2017.

  • Loans got cheaper since lending rates declined by around 100 basis points.

  • Real estate prices declined significantly.

  • On an average, revenues of ULBs across the country increased almost 3 times after demonetisation, compared to corresponding period of the previous year.

  • Revenues of ULBs in Uttar Pradesh increased 4 times. Revenues of ULBs in Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat increased almost 5 times.
