Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar: Eligibility and Criteria for Evaluation, Categories of Awards, Application

Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Launched in 2016. To recognize, inspire and celebrate excellence in sanitation and hygiene practice in schools. To honour schools that have undertaken significant steps towards fulfilling the mandate of the Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign.

Eligibility and Criteria for Evaluation

  • The awards will be open to (a) Government Schools (b) Government Aided Schools (b) Private Schools, in both rural and urban areas.

The performance of the schools will be evaluated under the following categories:

  • Water
  • Toilets
  • Handwashing with Soap
  • Operations and Maintenance
  • Behaviour Change and Capacity Building

Categories of Awards

District Level

  • Open to All five star, four star and three star rated Schools.
  • Rural.
  • Urban.

State⟋UT Level Awards

  • Open to All five star, four star and three star rated Schools.
  • State⟋UT Level Committee headed by the State Education Secretary.
  • A maximum of twenty entries each at Elementary and Secondary level.
  • The State⟋UT Level Committee may get a physical verification of the selected schools.

National Level Awards

  • Open to only five star Categories.
  • A National level Committee headed by the Secretary (School Education & Literacy) .
  • Certificates of Recognition would be awarded to best participating Districts.
  • Expenditure will be borne under SSA⟋RMSA programmes.

Application

  • Schools can apply online through a website and mobile App for the awards.
  • The registration of schools would be done with the U-DISE code of the school.

Salient Features of Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2017 - 18

  • Evolved in consultation with UNICEF and Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) .
  • UNICEF and Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) were the Implementation and Technical partners for the awards.

Rating of schools through a transparent mechanism:

  • Water
  • Toilet
  • Hand washing with Soap
  • Operations and Maintenance
  • Behaviour Change and Capacity Building

The Certificate of Recognition (maximum number of schools) was awarded with National Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar:

  • 4 States (Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh)
  • 9 districts (Pondicherry, Srikakulam, Chandigarh, Hisar, Karaikal, Latur, Nellore, South Goa, Vadodara)
