The Target Olympic Podium Scheme was formulated by the Union Ministry of youth affairs and sports in July 2014 under the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) . The objective is to identify and support potential medal prospects for the 2016 and 2020 Olympic and Paralympics Games. It provides financial assistance to selected athletes under the scheme for their training.

  • The scheme provides world-class facilities to Institutions and provides support to improve performance and higher position in medals tally for India.
  • About of the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) has been spending on the Target Olympic Podium scheme.
  • Till November 2019,352 athletes have received the financial assistance under the Target Olympic Podium scheme in the sports like athletes, badminton, boxing, cycling, hockey, shooting, Judo, wrestling, etc.
  • Nine sports have given high priority under the scheme; these sports include athletics, badminton, shooting, weightlifting, hockey, tennis, archery, and boxing.
  • Assistance to National Sports Federations scheme also provides financial assistance to the sports discipline՚s other than the high priority sports disciplines.
  • Assistance to National Sports Federations scheme provides assistance to conduct of international events in India, a national championship and coaching camps, participation in international sporting events.

Khelo India Scheme

  • Khelo India is a national program launched for sports by the ministry of youth and sports.
  • It provides a pathway from schools to Olympics and competitive athletes.
  • Those who selected under the scheme will get ₹ 5 Lakh scholarship per annum per 8 years.
  • The government also aiming to promote 20 universities as a hub of Sporting excellence.
