Immediate Action

  • Early completion of work pertaining to Unicode Scripts of Mithilakshar by Technology Development of Indian Languages (TDIL) and
  • To prepare audio-visual teaching materials for teaching Mithilakshar scripts.

  • Mithilakshar or Tirhuta is script of broader cultural Mithila. Scripts of Mithilaksar, Bangla, Assamese, Nebari, Odia & Tibetan are part of family.

  • It is one of script & is one of scripts of broader North Eastern India. Mithilakshar had come to its current shape by 10th Century AD.

  • The oldest form of Mithilakshar is found inamorata stone inscriptions of 950 AD. Afterwards, scripts has been used throughout Mithila from Champaran to Deoghar.

  • From last 100 years use of this script has been on decline & therefore our culture is getting decimated. Because its own script is not being used, Maithili language is getting developed in composite manner despite having been accorded constitutional status in constitution.

  • Keeping all this aspects in view, Ministry of Human Resource Development constituted this Committee in year 2018 for making report for Promotion & Protection of Maithili Language & its scripts.
