Union Cabinet approved Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) at Berhampur in Odisha. This is an ex-post facto approval. It will be established under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It will start its 2016 - 17 academic sessions from 1st August 2016.

  • Start from temporary campus for Academic Year 2016 - 17 for the initial 3 years. The new building will cost of ₹ 152.79 crore.
  • IISER, Tirupati and IISER, Berhampur are proposed in National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER) Act, 2007.
  • Cabinet approved introduction of National Institutes of Technology, Science Education, and Research (Second Amendment) Bill, 2016 in parliament.
