Union Government Rejects NSCN-K for Five Years

About NSCN - K: NSCN stands for Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland. It is a Naga independent Military group operative in North - East India. The main goal of the organization is to establish an independent state “Nagalim” by joining all the areas settled by the Naga people in North - East India and Burma.

  • It was made on 31st January 1980 by Isak Chishi Swu, Thuingaleng Muivah and S. S. Khaplang differing the Shillong Accord signed by the then Naga National Council with the Government of India.
  • On 30th April 1988, the NSCN split into two factions: NSCN - K led by S. S. Khaplang, and the NSCN - IM, led by Isak Chishi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah.

About rejection for five years:

  • Union Government has rejects Naga rebel group NSCN - K for five years.
  • NSCN - K has been rejected under the Illegal Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
  • Narendra Modi who is chaired the Union Cabinet take this decision in a meeting.
  • NSCN - K had individually cancelled the peace agreement with the Union government and did a string of terror attacks.
  • In June 2015, it was involved in cruel killing of 18 soldiers of 6 Dogra Battalion in a trap in Chandel district of Manipur.
