Union Ministry of Railways & Coal distributed awards to winning stations of Station Beautification competition in Rail Bhawan, New Delhi on 12th July 2018. Station Beautification competition was organized among Zonal Railways in December 2017.

  • 1st Prize: Balharshah & Chandrapur Railway Stations of Central Railway – Rs. 10 Lakhs.

  • 2nd Prize: Madhubani station of East Central Railway & Madurai station of Southern Railway – Rs. 5 Lakhs.

  • 3rd Prize: Gandhidham station of Western Railway, Kota station of West Central Railway & Secunderabad station of South Central Railway – Rs. 3 Lakhs.

Station Beautification Initiative

  • Station beautification initiative was launched by Indian Railways under guidance of Minister of Railways & Coa.

  • This involved wall art of paints & graffiti or local arts w/participation of local artists, private groups & volunteers.

  • Over 62 stations across Zonal railways are beautified under this initiative. Evaluation committee of senior officials of Ministry of Railways was formed to judge entries of stations that participated in this competition.

  • Entries were evaluated based on various factors like depiction of local subjects, culture & themes, overall harmony of art w/station colours, type of art form used, quality of work done.

  • Award winning stations were selected based on recommendations of this committee & were approved by Chairman, Railway Board.
