Union Human Resource Development Ministry launched 2nd edition of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Students from 750 higher educational institutions from across country will adopt nearby villages & visit them to get acquainted w/regular lifestyle of village people & problems faced by them in their day to day life under this program.

  • Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar said that students are real agents of change who can develop, empower & brighten future of country.
  • Unique initiative will provide opportunity to students to learn about basic challenges faced by rural people & to bring out practical solutions for their betterment.
  • He advised students to involve local village people at every stage of problem identification & solving issues relating to health, cleanliness, waste management, plantation, financial inclusion, women, & child development.

Objective of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

  • Main objective of program is to enable higher education institutions to work w/people of rural India in identifying development challenges & evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable development in rural areas.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

  • It is flagship programme of Ministry of Human Resources Development, w/intention to enrich Rural India.

  • Under program, knowledge base & resources of premier institutions of country will be leveraged to bring in transformational change in rural developmental process.

  • Project aims to create vibrant relationship b/w society & higher educational institutes, w/latter providing knowledge & technology support to improve livelihoods in rural areas & to upgrade capabilities of both public & private organisations in society.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0

  • 2nd edition of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is higher version of program’s previous edition.

  • Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0, institutions are selected on Challenge Mode & scheme is extended to 750 reputed Higher Educational Institutes (both public & private) of country.

  • Scope for providing Subject Expert Groups & Regional Coordinating Institutes to handhold & guide participating institutions is strengthened in this edition.

  • IIT Delhi is designated to function as National Coordinating Institute for programme & Ministry intends to extend coverage to all reputed Higher Educational Institutes, in phased manner.

  • Each selected institute would adopt cluster of villages/panchayats & gradually expand outreach over period of time.

  • Institutes thru their faculty & students, will carry out studies of living conditions in adopted villages, assess local problems & needs, work out possibilities of leveraging technological interventions & need to improve processes in implementation of various govt. schemes, prepare workable action plans for selected villages.

  • Such knowledge inputs would make their way into development programmes in rural areas.

  • Institutes would be expected to closely coordinate w/district administration, elected public representatives of panchayat/villages & other stakeholders & will become very much part of process of development planning & implementation.
