Upma Chowdhary has been appointed as new Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) at Mussoorie. She will be the 23rd director and first woman director of LBSNAA. She will replace Rajeev Kapoor.

About Upma Chowdhary

  • Upma Chowdhary is a 1983 batch IAS officer of Himachal cadre.
  • She was posted as Additional Chief Secretary in Himachal Pradesh.
  • During her 33 years’ service as an IAS officer, she had served in several positions in the state and at the centre.

About LBSNAA

  • The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration is a research and training institute on public policy and public administration in India.
  • Address: Charleville, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.
  • Founded in 1959.
  • The academy’s main purpose is to train civil service officers of the three All India Services namely Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and the Indian Forest Service.
  • Training center for for Group-A Central Services such as Indian Revenue Service and the Indian Foreign Service among others.
  • The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) trainees’ officers will awarded MA degree in Public Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
  • Mandate:

    • Induction level training to members of All India Services and Central Services (Group A) through a common Foundation Course
    • Induction-level and post-entry professional training for officers of IAS including mid-career training programs
    • Other in-service training programs for the IAS and other services.
