On the 69th Foundation Day of Western Railways Uttam Rake was introduced. Uttam Rake is a non Ac local train for ladies from Churchgate to Virar in Mumbai. As a part of Make in India initiative several advanced features have been set up in the train. Two Uttam Rake were built at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai one is given to Western Railway and other to the South Central Railway.

Features of the train

  • Upgraded seats made from Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP).

  • CCTV surveillance, LED lights, grabs handles.

  • Electrically operated Passenger Alarm system.

  • Brushless DC fans they consume less energy.

  • High backrest seats in 1st class coach

  • Modular luggage racks.

  • Emergency push button for stoppage instead of chain.

Integral Coach Factory (ICF)

  • ICF is a premier production unit of Indian Railways, It manufacturers Railway passenger coaches.

  • It was first set up in 1955 in Chennai with the collaboration of Swiss with the installed capacity of 350 coaches per annum.

  • In 2016 - 17 it was reached to 2000 coaches, in 2017 - 18 was 2777 coaches and 3200 in coaches 2018 - 19.

  • It manufactured over 50,000 coaches till now which is the highest in the world.

  • It equipped with advanced infrastructures like robotic spot welding centers, laser cutting welding machines etc.

  • ICF is fully equipped with its concept, design centre, good manufacturing facility, design engineering to build coaches.

  • High quality machinery in ICF provides precious quality of coaches.

  • It Exports coaches to over 12 countries. ICF exports Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMC) coaches to Sri Lanka.

  • ICF is environmental friendly most of its energy comes from renewable energy sources like solar, wind for their energy requirements.

Western Railways

  • It was established on 5th November 1951.

  • It having a six divisions Ahmadabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Ratlam and Mumbai spreads in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

  • Headquartered at Mumbai Churchgate.

  • In 1992 Western railway introduced world’s first ladies special train.

  • India’s first air conditioned Electric Multiple Units train was introduced in 2017.
