Department of Social Justice And Empowerment had invited nominations for Vayoshrestha Samman- National Awards for Senior Citizens 2019 for individuals/institutions to be sent by 31st May, 2019.

Department of Social Justice And Empowerment as part of celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) on 1st October every year has been conferring National Award – Vayoshrestha Samman to eminent senior citizens and institutions involved in rendering distinguished services for the cause of elderly persons.

Overview

  • The government has been conferring Vayoshrestha Samman every year since 2005, but it has been given the status of a national award only since 2013.

  • The Awards are given to eminent citizens and institutions in recognition of their outstanding services to the elderly people, especially indigent senior citizens.

  • Vayoshrestha Samman” was elevated to the level of national awards in 2013 under 13 categories.

  • The Award in each category shall carry a Citation, a Plaque and also cash award in some of the categories as decided from time to time.

  • The Ministries/Departments of Government of India and their autonomous organizations/State Govts. Or UT Administration can nominate the suitable individuals/institutions for the said Awards.

  • Eligible individuals/institutions may forward nomination for conferment of the award to the Department before or on 31st May, 2019.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Samman are open to all Indian Institutions, organizations and individuals without any distinction or discrimination on grounds of race, sex, caste or creed.

  • To be eligible for the Samman, it would ordinarily be necessary that the nominee is recommended in writing by an agency or individual mentioned in the following section. However, in exceptional cases, the Selection Committee may also, suo-moto, recommend a person or Institution for the award, with Justification.

  • Self-nominations for the Samman shall not be considered by the Screening Committee and the Selection Committee.
