National Informatics Centre (NIC) had a 3-day National Meet on Grassroot Informatics – VIVID: Weaving a Digital India, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The theme for VIVID 2018 is – Cyber Security and Innovation.

Aim of VIVID

  • Showcase initiatives of NIC in creating and enhancing the security of Digital Infrastructure in the country.

  • Extensive platform for knowledge sharing which would empower 240 NIC district officials from across the country to interact and leverage on each other’s experience and best practices.

  • DIOs would present their portals, showcase their applications, their district initiatives and their contribution towards Digital India initiative.

  • As a pilot project, 150 District NIC offices would be upgraded during the period 2017 - 18, while rest will follow soon.

Portals Introduced by NIC in VIVID-2018?

NIC today also introduced two new portals –

‘Centre of Excellence for Application Security’ (CoEAS)

‘Secure, Scalable, & Sugamya Website as a Service’ (S3WaaS).

What is NIC?

  • National Informatics Centre (NIC) was established in 1976.

  • Emerged as a “prime builder” of e-Government/e-Governance applications up to the grassroots level as well as a promoter of digital opportunities for sustainable development.

  • NIC, through its ICT Network, “NICNET”, has institutional linkages with all the Ministries/Departments of the Central Government, 36 State Governments/Union Territories, and about 708 District administrations of India.

  • NIC has been instrumental in steering e-Government/e-Governance applications in government ministries/departments at the centre, states, districts, and blocks.

  • NIC also facilitates in improvement in government services, wider transparency, promoting decentralized planning and management, resulting in better efficiency and accountability to the people of India.

  • Some of these are – setting up of ICT infrastructure, developing state of the art products to enable the government and empower the citizens.

  • NIC’s initiatives are at state and district level along the lines of Digital India initiatives along with the various awareness campaigns on Digital Payment Systems encompassing DBT, PFMS, Cashless Payment, Aadhaar etc.
