1098 is the phone number of hope for millions of children across India, CHILD LINE is India՚s first 24-hour, helpline for children. Implemented by Ministry Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India under Centrally Sponsored Scheme namely, Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) (now “Child Protection Services” ) providing institutional and non-institutional support for children in need of care and protection.

Scheme Details

  • Services are available at 412 locations across the country
  • CHILDLINE is a partnership platform bringing together the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, the UNICEF, the Department of Telecommunications, street and community youth, non-profit organisations, academic institutions, the corporate sector, and concerned individuals.
  • Ministry is providing support for an outreach service for children in distress including children requiring assistance for protection from abuse.

    ChildLine Contact Centres

  • There are six (06) CHILDLINE contact centres (CCCs) functional in five locations namely
    • Gurugram
    • Mumbai
    • Bengaluru
    • Chennai
    • Kolkata.
  • The calls to 1098 from respective cities/districts are connected to these centres. Calls for intervention are transferred back to the respective intervention units for providing necessary assistance to the child in distress.
  • Under ICPS, there is a provision of Regional Resource Centres (RRC) and there are four RRC located in
    • New Delhi
    • Kolkata
    • Mumbai
    • Chennai.
