E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that look like cigarettes and deliver an aerosol of nicotine and other chemicals. It is promoted as safer alternatives to cigarettes and smoking cessation aids. These are rapidly gaining popularity among adults and youth in the USA and worldwide. These devices are largely unregulated and there are no control over marketing to minors.

In Korea it is very widely prevalent. On an average 4 out of every 5 adolescent Koreans are dual smokers using both tobacco and nicotine in e-cigarettes.
