After several poor air quality days during winter, the Centre and Delhi government initiated a two-week Clean Air Campaign in in Delhi from February 10 to February 23 not only as a symbolic exercise, but a serious effort to drastically bring down pollution.

About the Clean Air Campaign

The campaign involves

  • Checking vehicular pollution

  • Inspection of power plants to ensure norms compliance

  • Dust management at construction sites

  • A marathon to improve awareness

  • Indoor air quality management

In addition to the Central and State governments, the drive will involve:

  • Delhi Police

  • Educational institutions

  • Industries

  • Apex industrial bodies

  • Pollution is a serious economic and health issue, linked to the national image

  • Zero Tolerance to Polluters

Clean Air Campaign Implementation

  • Creation of 70 joint teams of officials belonging to departments of

    • Ministry of Environment

    • Forest & Climate Change

    • CPCB (Central Pollution control Board)

    • Delhi Government

    • DPCC (Delhi Pollution Control Committee)

    • Municipal Corporations

    • NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Council)

  • Teams to monitor causes of pollution and initiate remedial measures, including penal actions against serious polluters on the spot.

  • Delhi generates 131 tonnes of dust every day, and controlling would bring down air pollution drastically.

  • Large-scale construction in Delhi-NCR is one of the major causes for increase in dust and pollution in the air.

  • A national campaign, named Green Good Deeds would also support the cause.

  • The Central government has recently notified dust mitigation norms to contain dust pollution.

  • Green Good Deeds campaign was launched to restore and return the clean and green environment to the next generation.
