Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) came into existence in 1987. It is a national-level apex organization functioning under Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

  • Head office located in New Delhi and has network of 13 regional offices located across country.

  • TRIFED serves the tribals engaged in collection of NTFP and making of art & handicrafts ensuring better price for their products

  • TRIFED promotes socio-economic betterment through Self Help Groups, empanelled NGOs, state level tribal development corporations, and forest development corporations for marketing development of the tribal products.

Functions of TRIFED

  • Ultimate objective of TRIFED is socio-economic development of tribal people by way of marketing development of tribal products from which tribes derive major portion of income.

  • TRIFED’s role is facilitator and service provider.

  • Empower tribal people with knowledge, tools, and information to undertake their operations systematically and scientifically.

  • Promote capacity building of the tribal people through sensitization, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and training

  • Explore marketing possibilities in national as well as international markets

  • Create opportunities for marketing tribal products on a sustainable basis

  • Create a brand.

Advantages of Beekeeping

  • Useful in pollination of crops increasing income of the farmers as well as beekeepers by increasing crop yield and providing honey and other beehive products- royal jelly, bee pollen, propolis, bees wax, etc.

  • Beekeeping recognised as important inputs for sustainable development of agriculture and horticulture.

TRIFED and Bee Keeping Development

  • Honey is an important Minor Forest Produce thus, it is important to protect, promote, and multiply honeybees by scientific, non-destructive collection practices

  • About 90 % of the Scheduled Tribes live in and around forest areas with forests providing 60 % of the food & medicinal needs of tribals. 40 % of Tribal income comes from Minor Forest Produce (MFP) mostly honey.
