Zero Budget Natural Farming Programme

  • Programme is made of set of natural farming methods under which cost of growing & harvesting plants is zero.

  • Programme is bit diff. from organic farming as this practice believes more in natural growth of crops w/o adding any fertilizers & pesticides or any other foreign elements.

  • Programme involves almost no monetary investment & envisages use of ‘Jeevamrutha’ & ‘Beejamrutha’ (sources of beneficial bacteria)

  • ‘Zero Budgets’ refers to zero net cost of production of all crops, which means that farmers do not have to buy fertilizers & pesticides to ensure healthy growth of crops.

  • Main of ZBNF is to eliminate use of chemical pesticides & use biological pesticide instead.

  • Farmers are advised to use cow dung, urine, plants, human excreta, earthworms & similar biological fertilizers for crop protection.

  • Practices protect soil from degradation & help in retaining soil fertility.

  • They lower cost of inputs of farmers & give better capacity to increase their income.

  • Socio-economic studies on various aspects of research & development should be kept in mind by policymakers while framing policies.

  • As 90 % of population is dependent on farming, agriculture programmes should be pushed in big way.

Aim of Project

  • The aim is to have farmers equate w/Sikkim in adopting organic farming, & to use manure instead of insecticides & pesticides.

  • Aim of project is to increase agriculture production & income of farmers by 2022.
