World [Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) ] Day is being celebrated on every 1st December in order to raise awareness of the pandemic caused by the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It is also celebrated to remember those who have died of the disease by mourning.

  • “Getting to zero, End AIDS by 2030” is 2015՚s theme.
  • Several Government, non - governmental organizations (NGOs) , health officials and individuals around the world celebrated this day in order to spread awareness and education on AIDS prevention and control.

About World AIDS Day:

World AIDS Day was first conceived in august 1987 by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter who are the public information officers of Global Programme on AIDS at World Health Organization (WHO) located at Geneva, Switzerland.

World AIDS Day is one of the eight official global public health campaigns obvious by the WHO.

Reasons for getting infected with AIDS

  • Unprotected sex with an infected person.
  • During pregnancy from mother to child or even breastfeeding.
  • Through transfusion of blood.
  • Using of hypodermic needles of infected person to other person.

Due to AIDS more than 36 million people are killed as of 2013, and 35.3 million people are living with HIV.

It is the most important global public health issues in history.
