  • As the lockdown imposed during coronavirus pandemic, the number of beach visitors in Odisha has reduced significantly.
  • Rescue operations have been started by animal organizations top save abandoned animals.
  • As the tourists from within and outside the state are cancelling their holidays, beach tourism has been affected in many areas of state including-
    • Puri
    • Paradip
    • Gopala Pur
  • Beaches of Odisha are having a deserted look.
  • Earlier people used to enjoy camel rides on the beaches.
  • But the lockdown has forced the camel owners to leave the beaches and abandon their camels.
  • In the deserts, camels have been a traditional mode of transport.
  • The attributes which make the camels survive in desert are
    • Ability to carry heavy load
    • Staying hydrated for long periods
  • Outside its natural habitat, the life of camels becomes miserable.
  • The following come under offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals act, 1960-
    • Abandoning animals by the owner
    • Causing cruelty
    • Detaching themselves from animals
  • The rumors that COVID-19 is being transmitted from animals to humans have also led to some people in the state abandoning their pets.
