The theme of World Diabetes Day 2016 is “Eyes on Diabetes” focusing on promoting the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and treatment to reduce the risk of serious complications.

  • Created in 1991 by IDF.
  • Led by International Diabetes Federation (IDF).
  • World Health Organization responded to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.
  • Thus, World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2006.

Aims of The World Diabetes Day Campaign

  • Be the platform to promote IDF advocacy efforts throughout the year.
  • Promote coordinated and concerted actions to confront diabetes as a critical global health issue.


  • People with diabetes in family, should be careful not to put on weight over the years.
  • Growth of the waistline, in particular, increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • Regular moderate physical activity will lowers the risk.
  • Pay attention to diet.
  • Eat plenty of fiber-rich cereal products and vegetables every day.
  • Omit excess hard fat from diet and favor soft vegetable fats.
