World Mosquito Day Observed on 20th August [ Current News (Concise) - ]


Every year 20th August is being observed as the World Mosquito Day to raise awareness about the main reason is Mosquito behind causes of malaria and also to prevent and fundraise for research into the treatment of malaria.


  • The World Mosquito Day is also celebrated in the memorial of British doctor Sir Ronald Ross who has discovered female mosquitoes which transmit malaria between humans in 1897.
  • Every year the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine holds Mosquito Day celebrations with parties and exhibitions, a tradition dating back to as early as the 1930s like event to marks the historic discovery by British doctor Sir Ronald Ross.
  • This discovery helps a lot to scientists across the world for bitterly understand the key role of mosquitoes in disease transmission and found effective advanced interventions.
