Writer Neel Mukherjee wins 10,000 Encore Award for year 2015 [ Current News (Concise) - ]


Eminent writer Neel Mukherjee’s novel “The Lives of Others” has won the United Kingdom’s Encore Award 2015 for the best second novel. The novel The Lives of Others based upon story of one family living in Calcutta in 1960s and this novel reflect the political and social convulsions (caused by illness or drugs) of an entire society.

Encore Award winner for year 2015

  1. Neel Mukherjee’s novel covers various issues ranging from the mass hunger of the Second World War to independence and the emergence of the Maoist Naxalbari movement.
  2. First novel of Neel Mukherjee was published in 2010 which name of the novel was A Life Apart and it was shortlisted for 2011 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.
  3. The Lives of Others (second novel) was shortlisted for the 2014 Man Booker Prize. Neel Mukherjee was born in Kolkata in 1970.
  4. Encore Award was established in 1990. It is sponsored by Lucy Astor and price of award money is about 10,000.
