World Happiness Index (WHI) 2016 of United Nations India ranked 118th out of 157 countries. The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a global initiative for the UN has publicized the fourth World Happiness Report 2016.

Key Highlights of Report

Top 10 countries are:

  • Denmark
  • Switzerland
  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • Finland
  • Canada
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Australia
  • Sweden

5 Least happiest countries:

  • Rwanda at 152nd position
  • Benin at 153rd position
  • Afghanistan at 154th position
  • Togo at 155th position
  • Syria at 156th position
  • Burundi at 157th position

India’s Neighbors:

  • Nepal at 78th
  • China at 83rd
  • Bhutan at 84th
  • Pakistan at 104th
  • Bangladesh at 110th
  • Sri Lanka at 117th
  • Afghanistan at 154th

The report has given a special role to measurement and significances of difference in the distribution of well-being among countries and regions for the first time.

Countries are mastered inequality and with less inequality the country should counted as happier overall.

And the top five countries have strong social security systems

About World Happiness Report

Aim of the report is to influence government policy which is prepared based upon study undertaken by Gallup World Poll.

Nations are scored on bases of different variables on a scale running from 0 to 10 by the World Happiness Index.

These variables include

  • Real GDP per capita
  • Healthy life expectancy
  • Corruption levels
  • Social freedoms
