The Saur Sujala Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chhattisgarh on the occasion of the 16th foundation day celebration, under which solar powered irrigation pumps will be provided to farmers at a subsidized price.

Key Facts

  • 3HP and 5HP capacity solar powered irrigation pumps to be distributed to the farmers at the subsidized price.
  • Focus areas include regions still deprived of electricity.

Objective of Saur Sujala Yojana

  • Empower farmers through solar irrigation pumps at subsidized rates.
  • Strengthen the agriculture and rural development in rural Chhattisgarh.
  • Provide benefit to 51000 farmers in Chhattisgarh in next two years (by 2018).

Saur Sujala Yojana Implementation

  • CREDA (Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency) will implement this scheme under the Department of Energy, Govt of Chhattisgarh.
  • Around 11000 solar pumps to be distributed to farmers in the state during financial year 2016-17.
  • Department of Agriculture to select farmers.

Note: Farmers taking advantage of borewell or pump scheme are also eligible for this scheme.

About CREDA

  • Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency was founded on 25th May 2001 under Society Act 1973 as a State Nodal Agency by State Govt. for the development and promotion of non-conventional & renewable sources of energy.
  • Schemes such as National Programme on Bio-gas Development, Solar Thermal, Solar Photo Voltaic, Remote Village Electrification and Biomass Gasifier were implemented by CREDA.
