Do's and Don'ts

Starting Early

  • Not to wait for the results.

  • Working on personality as early as possible.

Knowing Oneself

  • Different aspects of the personality.

  • Trying to overcome the weakness.

Reading Bio-Data Multiple Times

  • Not to fumble on personal questions.

  • Revising the bio-data many times and prepare well.

  • Questions from areas like hobbies, education, work experience, service-preference etc.

A Positive Attitude and Self –Confidence

  • No negative thoughts and worries.

  • Expressing the answers or solutions with confidence.

Communication Skills

  • Listening to debates and news on television channels.

  • Reading newspapers regularly.

Preparations on Hobbies

  • Helps the interviewer to understand the personalities of candidates.

  • Hobbies need to be practiced till the last week before the UPSC interview.

Using Common Sense and Keeping Calm

  • Spot critical or lateral thinking.

  • Keeping calm while not knowing the answer.

  • Admitting of not having an idea.

Revising the Optional Subjects

  • Knowledge on recent happenings or news in depth.

  • Related to the Optional subject.

Re-Checking the Documents

  • Careful verification of the documents.

  • To avoid last-minute panic.

    • Matriculation or equivalent certificate in original to verify the Name and Date of Birth.

    • Self-attested photo-copy of Matriculation or equivalent certificate in original to verify the Name and Date of Birth.

    • Degree certificate in original to prove education qualification (If original degree certificates are not issued, carry provisional certificates and/or mark-sheets).

    • Self-attested photo-copy of Degree certificate in original to prove education qualification (If original degree certificates are not issued, carry provisional certificates and/or mark-sheets).

    • Self-attested photo-copy of Degree in original.

    • Mark-sheets of Degree in original (UPSC staff may not always ask, but carry along with you.

    • 2 passport size photographs that are taken recently. Self-attest one of them.

    • E-summon letter print-out.

Additional Documents (Case by Case Basis)

  • Caste/Tribe Certificate in original plus copy.

  • Physical Disabilities Certificate in original plus copy. Also DWE certificate for PH-1(LDCP).

  • Certificates in support of age relaxation for corresponding categories.

  • PG degree/higher education certificates and mark-sheets.

  • TA form – two copies plus proof of journey (for outstation candidates).

  • Affidavit (in case of minor name discrepancies).

Documents for Medical Examination

  • 8-10 passport size photos.

  • Prescriptions or medical certificates if any (may turn helpful for eye check-up).

Documents to be Sent to DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training)

  • A copy of the attestation form duly filled.

  • Six copies of the attested form each signed in.

  • Affix a signed passport size copy of a recent photograph.

Neat and Clean Dressing

  • For males a light coloured shirt and dark trousers is ideal.

  • For females saree is recommended.

Mock Interview Preparations

  • Helps in finding out strengths and weaknesses.

  • Taking help from friends.

  • Improves consistency.

Be Yourself

  • Not to mug up ready-made answers.

  • Expressing one’s own opinion.
