IAS Mains 2015 General Studies Paper 1 Detailed Analysis [ IAS Updates ]

On 19th December 2015 UPSC has conducted General Studies paper 1 (GS1) of civil services mains examination. It was 250 marks paper and examination duration was 3 hours as usual. Rules for examinations are as mentioned below:

  • There are TWENTY questions in both HINDI and in ENGLISH. Each Question has weighted with 12.5 marks.
  • All the questions are compulsory.
  • Answers must be written according to the selected single language.
  • If answer find in other language then authorized then there will be no marks for answers.
  • Answers must be completed in Word limit provided in questions

Observations of earlier year papers compared to 2015

GS1 was being difficult than earlier year below are the areas in which difficulty level are increased for candidates:

  • As compared to earlier paper style Gradual shift from factual freedom struggle to analytical freedom struggle
  • In 2015 - No questions from pre-1857 mutiny topics such as Lord Dalhousie or Panipat battle like in 2013 - 14.
  • In both 2014 and 2015 papers - No questions from post-independence of India.
  • In both 2014 and 2015 GS1 paper - Women related questions high importance.

Population: The main area of questions includes

  • Sex ratio ST > SC
  • Labour migration trend in 40 years.

Geography:

  • Climate change related questions are more included rather than physical and industrial location related question as asked in previous year papers.
  • Difficulty level is less as compared to last year so that non-geographical candidates can also attend.
