UPSC decided to allow candidates to withdraw their names from civil services examination. Only half of over 10 lakh aspirants who apply for exam actually appear in test. The arrangement will be implemented beginning with Engineering Services Examination, 2019.

  • Commission has to book venues, print papers, hire invigilators & ship documents for all applicants - which turns out to be 50 % waste of energy and resources.
  • UPSC conducts civil services examination annually in 3 stages – preliminary, main and interview – to select officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.

How to avail facility:

  • Candidate has to provide details of application. Separate One-Time Passwords (OTPs) will be sent on candidate’s registered mobile number & e-mail id.
  • On successful completion of withdrawal of application, confirmation message will be sent on e-mail & SMS. Once application has been withdrawn, it cannot be revived.
  • UPSC has brought increasing number of exam related interactions & transactions online to reduce stress for candidates. UPSC is moving ahead with mode of examination to computer-based mode.
