UPSC to Share Competitive Exams Scores Online for Employers to Boost Hiring [ IAS Updates ]

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has decided to share online scores of the candidates taking competitive exams like civil services, NDA too boost hiring. It’s a part of the government’s proposal to boost hiring by the private sector.

Main Benefits:

  • Publicly available scores will useful database to other employers to enable them to identify good, talented employable candidates.

Highlights:

  • Government and public sector conduct a number of recruitment examinations.
  • Scores in these examinations have been retained by the government.
  • Some test will not be covered such as:

    • Candidates taking tests for recruitment to the armed forces.
    • Those applying for limited departmental competitive examination.
    • Central Industrial Security Force.
  • Government entrance examinations for engineering and medical college’s results are already being used by private colleges for admissions.
  • UPSC will be making a provision in the application form therefore, candidates can either choose in or out of the disclosure scheme.
  • Under this scheme, necessary instructions to the candidates about the disclosure scheme will be provided in the Commission’s notice of all the examinations.
  • Some detail were not recommended will be made online for other recruitment agencies like:

    • Name, date of birth, category (whether SC, ST or physically handicapped) educational qualifications.
    • Total marks obtained in the written examination and interview based on which merit is formed.
    • Address, e-mail id and mobile number for only those candidates who have appeared in the final stage of examination.

Background detail:

  • Last year, central government had approved a Niti Aayog proposal to make scores and ranking of candidates in recruitment examinations available through a portal for increasing access of the unemployed to job opportunities.
  • In March, PM Narendra Modi announced that scores of candidates taking competitive examinations will be shared with prospective employers and to help them choose quality talent.
  • UPSC selects officers for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
  • Another recruitment agency such as Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts examinations to select candidates for various government departments.
