  • Aurobindo was involved in Indian National Movement for Freedom as everyone else in the country.
  • He remain actively involved in various activities of Freedom movement and participated in radical groups led by Tilak.
  • His name reflected in various conspiracy cases like Maniktola Bomb case but was acquitted.
  • Then he quit politics and moved to Channe Nagore and later on to Pondicherry to gain Spiritual enlightenment.

Concept of the Integral Yoga

  • Transformation of our superficial, narrow, and fragmentary human way of thinking, seeing, feeling and being into a deep and wide spiritual consciousness and an integrated inner and outer existence and of our ordinary human living into the divine way of life.
  • This yoga accepts the value of cosmic existence and holds it to be a reality; its object is to enter into a higher Truth-Consciousness or Divine Supramental Consciousness in which action and creation are the expression not of ignorance and imperfection, but of the Truth, the Light, the Divine Ananda (Bliss) .

  • The political thoughts of Aurobindo were influenced by philosophical idealism of Indian tradition and materialistic view of nature of European tradition.
  • Aurobindo is referred as the best synthesis of Asian and European culture.
  • He explained the origin, nature, and destiny of the world in his theory of evolution. He established that the matter passes through various stages of development; from the plant and animal stage to mind and super mind stage.
  • And the same is not possible without freedom and one՚s control on his own thoughts and life.

Political Thoughts of Aurobindo

  • After a careful analysis of the works of Aurobindo, this can be substantiated that he wrote comprehensively on political scenario. His political thoughts were based on his spiritual ideology, which says that the best stage of human development can not be attained without freedom and one՚s control on himself.
  • That՚s why he described Swarajya not only in political terms which is limited to political control on oneself rather he described it in spiritual terms and established political freedom is useless without spiritual freedom. So the duty of state should be extended in that way.
