Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi (IIT (BHU) Varanasi), formerly Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU) is an engineering and technology higher education institute located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is among the nine Indian Institutes of Technology introduced through the The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. IIT (BHU) Varanasi has 13 departments and three inter-disciplinary schools. In 2009, IT-BHU was put for a change into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) by altering the Institutes of Technology Act 1961 through The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011 which was passed by the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 as well as by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012.
