The advanced exam will be taken up by the top 1.5 lakh candidates, who get their names in the merit list from the 14 lakh examinees. This plays the role of a gateway for admission to the highly recognised Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), IIT BHU and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

The offline exam was being conducted on 7th April 2014 and there are four decided dates given for the computer-based exam to take place. These dates are namely April 9, 22, 23 and 25.

In the following year the JEE (Main) is conducted for the admissions into BE or B. Tech courses at National Institutes of technology, Delhi technological University and other Central Government financed technical institutions.

Paper Pattern

There will be only one objective type question paper for the JEE (Main) -2013 (paper I of earlier AIEEE). Subjects that have been covered in the three hour paper will be physics, chemistry and mathematics.

About 40% weightage will be carried by this year's JEE (Main) merit list and this is suitably normalized to Class 12th or other qualifying exam marks and 60% to performance in the entrance exam.

Before downloading the admit card for the online format, candidates need to fill up their roll numbers of class XIIth exams online.

Mark-sheet of the Class XIIth was carried to the exam hall by students who appeared for class XIIth.

Those students who had given class XIIth exams in 2011 and 2012, but had enrolled for improvement exam in all subjects in 2013 had to take along their admit card given in the improvement exam.

On 7th April 2014, students must bring their evidence of Class XIIth to the exam hall & many discrepancies seen when students filled their roll numbers online.
