Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) for undergraduate admissions to IITs will only be conducted online from next year. This decision taken at a meeting of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IITs in Chennai.

  • JAB is the policy-making body on IIT admissions.
  • Earlier, HRD Ministry introduced the option of taking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains online.
  • Students competing for admission to NITs, IITs and other centrally funded institutions requirement to clear the JEE Mains test to qualify for the JEE Advanced.
  • More than 13 lakh take the Mains test, with less than 10 % of them going online.
  • 2 lakh qualify for the advanced test.
  • Now, these students will have to take the test online.
  • This decision will ensure greater transparency and avoid instances of paper leak too.
  • Facility for 3 day training will be made to ensure students do not face any problem in taking the test online.
  • They will be allowed to take mock tests and operate the system.
