Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is all India common engineering entrance examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). Exam is formerly conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

  • Conducted for admission to undergraduate programmes BE, B. Tech, B. Arch at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by several participating State Governments, and several other institutions.

Important changes:

  • JEE (Main) examination will be conducted twice before admissions in the next academic session.
  • Candidates are not required to compulsorily take the test twice though if a candidate appears in both tests, better of the 2 scores will be considered.
  • JEE (Main) is eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which candidates can take if they are seeking admissions to undergraduate programmes offered by IITs.

  • The exam will be of total 3-hour duration.
  • All questions will be of objective type (multiple choice questions) i. e. each question with choice of four answers, only one being correct choice.
  • Each correct answer fetches 4 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark).
  • No marks are awarded for questions not attempted.
  • There will be 90 questions in all.
  • The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 90 questions.

  • Exam duration: 3-hour
  • Mathematics and Aptitude Test will be of objective type (MCQ).
  • For MCQs, each correct answer fetches 4 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark).
  • Drawing Test will be Pen and Paper based test of 70 marks having questions to test drawing aptitude.
  • No marks are awarded for questions not attempted.
  • There will be 82 questions in all.

Eligibility

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

  • Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 or 2018.
  • Or those candidates who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2019.
  • Candidates who appeared in Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2016, did not pass in 2016, but passed in 2017 are not eligible.
  • For admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination is also considered.

Subjects in Qualifying Examination

  • Candidates must have taken at least 5 subjects in Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in order to be eligible.
  • For B. E. /B Tech. course, candidates must have passed Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject.
  • For B. Arch. /B. Planning. course, candidates must have passed Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject.

Application Procedure

  • Aspiring candidate should furnish all details and choose password while filling up Online Application.
  • Application form is available at NTA on website i. e. www.nta.ac.in & www.jeemain.nic.in.
  • After successful submission of data, Application number will be generated which will be used for subsequent logins.
  • Once candidate has registered, he/she is required to upload scanned images of his/her photograph & signature.
  • Candidate is then required to pay Examination Fee which can be done by Credit card/Debit card/Paytm or e-challan (generated after submission of details in online application form).
  • Once payment is done, Acknowledgement Page will be generated. Candidates are advised to save it for future reference.
