The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences which is in progress since it was initiated. This program is managed and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It program is basically to help and encourage those students who are exceptional and have a strong will to pursue their career in science and research.
Under the scheme of program, students with talent and aptitude for research are identified; measured upon their inclination and determination to contribute in the field of science, help them realize their potential in their studies; encouraged to frame their careers in Science and research, thereby serving the country and leading it to the heights in scientific arena.
The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies, usually on the Technology Day i.e.. The May 11 and also on Second Sunday of July every year.
The selection of students is from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Natural and Basic Sciences having aptitude for scientific research. Firstly an aptitude test is conducted which the students have to clear. Then after the short-listed students are called for an interview. This is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview are required. The entire process is carried out by a panel of experts.
Generous scholarships are provided up to the pre-Ph. D. Level to the selected students.
