The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences which is in progress since it was initiated in the year 1999. This program is managed and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It program is basically to help and encourage those students who are exceptional and have a strong will to pursue their career in science and research.
Under the scheme of program, students with talent and aptitude for research are identified; measured upon their inclination and determination to contribute in the field of science, help them realize their potential in their studies; encouraged to frame their careers in Science and research, thereby serving the country and leading it to the heights in scientific arena. Generous fellowship and contingency grant are provided to the selected students till pre-Ph. D. In addition, summer programs for the KVPY Fellows are organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country every year.
The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the Government due to which this fellowship was initiated has given the total responsibility of organizing the KVPY Program to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and has set up a National Advisory Committee (NAC) for the supervision of the work. A Basic Committee and a National Scientific Committee, look after both the administrative and academic aspects of the KVPY Program.
