Kyoto Protocol

  • Adopted on 11 December 1997
  • Came in force on 16 February 2005
  • COP7 at Marrakesh - Rules for implementation were adopted & called “Marrakesh Accords.”
  • 1st commitment period started in 2008 and ended in 2012 - GHG against 1990 level
  • Aim to reduce emissions
  • 2012- Doha Amendments – 2nd Commitment period 2013 to 2020 - GHG against 1990 level
